What a subscription costs after the intro offer

A discounted first shipment is the most expensive marketing you will ever say yes to. Here is how to price the plan, not the pitch.

The only number that matters

Subscription pages lead with the intro offer: a first bag for less, a percentage off, free shipping to start. All of that is real — for one delivery. The plan is its renewal price: what bag two through fifty cost, plus shipping once the discount ends. Compare plans on renewal terms and you are comparing reality.

Compute it in four blanks

Open the cost sheet and enter the plan’s renewal terms as if the intro offer never existed:

  • Coffee — the bag price after the intro period, not during it.
  • Shipping — what shipping costs at renewal, if it isn’t free.
  • Bag weight — from the plan’s product page.
  • Ground per brew — 20 g is a fair default for drip.

Read the per brew line. That is the number to compare against what you pay today, not against the intro price — and not against a café, which spends money on rent and a barista you are choosing to skip.

Renewal terms we check, and you should too

Before committing to any plan, confirm at the seller: the renewal bag price, whether shipping is included at renewal, how easily you pause or cancel, and whether the “skip a month” button actually skips billing. Our comparison table lists what each plan advertises and marks it unverified — terms change, and the seller’s current page controls.

When a subscription genuinely wins

When you were already buying coffee at that cadence, the per-bag renewal price beats your local shelf, and the selection fits your taste. When none of those hold, buying bags one at a time — no plan, no clock — is not a failure of commitment. It is the correct answer.
